In this guide, we will take you through everything you need to know about gifting an NFT. Are you looking for gift ideas and don’t know where to start? Then make sure that you continue reading.
NFTs are all we have been hearing about all throughout 2021, with projects such as Bored Apes Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, and Cyber Cosmos World gathering huge communities around them and making it to the top of world news. With celebrities joining in and prices have been jumping up to unimaginable heights, and so the NFT craze got into full swing.
Because of this, gifting an NFT is a really good idea if picked correctly. This will make someone feel special as they would be owning something unique and be a part of a great community that has the same interest as them.

The short answer is yes, but it is not as simple as one might think.
Coming up with a gift idea is hard in general and when it comes to NFTs it can be even harder. You might be gifting an NFT to someone who is unfamiliar with NFTs and the whole crypto/blockchain ecosystem. In this case, it could be challenging to decide which kind of NFT would fit this type of person best and how to introduce them to their new asset and the community that comes with it.
The first thing to take into consideration when gifting an NFT is which blockchain you are going to use for this process. Currently, the biggest blockchain for NFTs is the Ethereum blockchain, but it is also pricey. Even if you find a relatively cheap NFT, you still have to take into account the high gas fees that come with the Ethereum blockchain.
A good alternative to the Ethereum blockchain is the Solana blockchain, which is also growing its NFT community and has relatively low gas fees.
In essence, gifting an NFT is really simple as all you have to do is transfer an NFT from your wallet to the recipient's wallet.
But before that, the first thing to take into consideration is that there are different blockchains that store these non-fungible tokens. We have to decide on which chain we want to purchase the NFT.
The Ethereum network is the biggest blockchain network when it comes to the NFT market, with a way bigger selection of projects, available on different NFT marketplaces such as OpenSea.
But Ethereum also comes with its negatives. One of the biggest weaknesses of Ethereum is its slow transaction speed and high gas fees associated with it, as people spend big amounts of money for their transactions to go through.
Solana is a big competitor of the Ethereum network, as it essentially does everything Ethereum does but is faster and cheaper. With its proof of stake protocol, it can process transactions way cheaper as well as faster.
But Solana does not have as big of a selection for NFTs as Ethereum does, so it might be hard for us to find exactly what we are looking for in our gift.
Lastly, and in our opinion the best network you can use is Polygon. The Polygon network is the fastest of the three mentioned networks as it has the ability to process 65,000 transactions a second.
When it comes to the main process of actually gifting the NFT, as we mentioned earlier, you just need to transfer the NFT from your wallet to the recipient's wallet.
There is no single guide for doing this, as there are countless websites where you can purchase an NFT and then transfer it using the network of your choosing.
In essence, this process should be somewhat similar on each network, as there are no huge differences when it comes to transferring assets from one wallet to another. The first thing we need to do is to get the recipient's wallet address, if he does not have one, we can easily make one for him and when presenting a gift, present him with the wallet's security phrase and show them how to access the wallet and NFT that comes with it.
After that, it's pretty straightforward, as we just have to go to the transfer assets tab which should be easily visible on any platform, and then just choose which NTF we want to send and write to which address it should go.
Some platforms make this process even simpler, as they have a Gift function. OpenSea is one of those platforms that provide this functionality, and we are going to show you how it’s done.
The first thing to do is to choose which NFT we want to gift, and it will show us a small arrow icon at the top right side, which we have to click on.
After clicking the arrow icon, we will be redirected to this screen where all we have to do is enter the address of the recipient and just click transfer.
Note that, when you hit transfer you will be redirected to your crypto wallet to confirm the transaction, just like any other crypto transaction.
When we transfer the NFT, we can check if the transfer went through and the NFT is visible on the recipient's wallet. To do so, we have to go to the Etherscan website and enter the recipient's wallet address where we will be shown if there is a token (NFT) present. As shown below you will see the number indicating the amount of NFTs on the wallet.
When it comes to non-fungible tokens, there are countless types that are available on the market, be it art, game, music, or Trading Card NFTs.
When it comes to NFTs, most of them are art NFTs. Artists started to utilize this new ecosystem to present their work to the world. It also became easier for them to get the spotlight that they deserve, as more and more people are gaining interest in the NFT world.
Art is a subjective concept. If you don’t know a person’s art style preferences, it might be hard to decide on an NFT gift. But if you really love the idea of giving someone an NFT associated with art, we would suggest one of the best projects on OpenSea, called Art Blocks. Art Blocks is a project that has a huge selection of art NFTs with a wide range of themes, all of which in our opinion is beautiful.
One of the best things about Art Blocks is that it has 3 different selections.
First is Art Blocks Curated, which is the most expensive of those 3 collections. Inside the Curated collection, we will see many different smaller collections which we can choose from. But as mentioned, this is an expensive collection, where prices can go really high, up to millions, but there might also be some works that can fit into your budget. So it is not a bad idea to take a glance at some of the works here.
The other two collections, Playground and Factory collections, are on the budget side of the spectrum. Here you can find artworks that don't fall far short of the Curated collections. Here you can find works that are worth around $200-$300, which might still seem expensive, but the NFT market is not a cheap place and if you want your gift to leave a lasting impression, it might be worth checking out these collections.
Does your gift recipient enjoy playing games? Then this type of NFT should be your go-to.
Game NFTs nowadays come with play-2-earn mechanisms, so if you are thinking that gifting an NFT is a pointless idea because it's just a picture that anyone can screenshot and use, then this type of NFT will change your perception.
By gifting these types of NFTs we are giving a person the opportunity to play a game he will enjoy and earn some money. If our gift recipient is new to the crypto world, this type of NFT is probably the best catalyst for their incorporation into the crypto ecosystem, as these types of games usually have the most active communities.
These communities are continually busy on social media where they share different news, ideas, and thoughts that will help a newcomer get more familiar with the crypto world.
When it comes to our suggestion for a game NFT, Illuvium is the project we would suggest. Illuvium is an open-world game that allows its players to explore seven different terrains, inhabited by aliens. While exploring, players can collect different kinds of creatures with different unique abilities. While playing, these aliens are gaining experience and leveling up, and in doing so their value goes up, and they can be sold on the marketplace for crypto.
With a good community and great support, this is the game NFT we suggest gifting. When it comes to games, every person has their own preferences, so it would be good to first find out what kinds of games the gift recipient enjoys and then decide which game NFT to gift them.
Trading cards, also called collectible cards, are not a new context. Ever since we were kids, most of us used to collect these types of cards, be it Pokémon or baseball cards. If we had something that was unique or hard to get, we would always brag about it with our friends.
Trading card NFTs work on the same principle. You collect different cards from collections that are based on all sorts of stuff, be it cars, sports, TV shows, and more. It can be a really good gift for a person with a specific interest, and as seen recently with Pokémon trading cards that are now selling for millions of dollars, it might even turn out to be a good investment. It should be noted that some of these cards might cost a pretty penny.
If your friend is a fan of football then the Wrapped Stickers collection is the NFT project we suggest from which to choose a gift. These cards were minted in June 2018 and depict players competing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. As well as being visually pleasing, these cards also hold one unique characteristic which not many other NFTs hold, which is their age.
They were minted using an old ERC-721 system, which makes these cards incompatible with newer protocols. Originally, the name of the project was Crypto Stickers but then changed to Wrapped Stickers. Because of that, these cards require being wrapped in order to be placed in the marketplace. They can also be unwrapped, so they never lose that uniqueness. Some of the collectors really like the uniqueness of these cards, which is why we think it is a really good gift.
You can purchase them on OpenSea, but cards of more famous players don’t go for cheap.

NFTs can be bought on NFT marketplaces. With the recent trend of NFTs, currently, there are countless NFT marketplaces, so it should not be hard to find one that is right for you. Our suggestion would be OpenSea as it has a selection of every kind of NFT.
