How Secure Is KuCoin?

When looking at KuCoin security we have got some mixed feelings about it. On one hand, it has really good security measures in place in order to protect its users' funds, but it also has one major problem, which is the lack of regulatory oversight.

KuCoin is one of the biggest crypto exchanges in the world, but despite that, it does not hold any regulatory licenses, which is a red flag for many traders. Not having a regulatory license means that no government is controlling KuCoins' operations, so if something goes wrong, we can not count on the government to step in for our protection.

Security measures adopted by KuCoin

As we mentioned, despite not having regulatory oversight KuCoin still makes sure to protect its users as much as possible. For this, they have implemented many different security measures, one of which is the insurance policy provided by Onchain Custodian. Thanks to this insurance policy traders are protected from losses of funds caused by theft, hacks, or other external or internal issues.

KuCoin also has a multifactor authentication system in place. When using this system, traders can protect their accounts with one-time generated codes. This can be done using an email address, phone number, or Google Authenticator app. Whenever traders log in to their accounts, they will need to provide a one-time generated code sent via one of these methods. For even more protection traders can receive different codes via all of these methods and access their accounts that way.

Lastly, we want to mention that KuCoin utilizes cold wallet storage to protect users' funds. These cold wallets are disconnected from the internet, so if KuCoin gets hacked, hackers will not have direct access to these funds. Hacking into cold wallets is very nearly impossible unless you have teams of hackers and the budget of a small country to throw at it.

What Can You Trade on KuCoin?

When it comes to assets that you can trade on KuCoin, there is a really big selection of tokens. In total, KuCoin supports 726 cryptocurrencies which are paired up with each other to create 1279 trading pairs. This large selection of tokens guarantees that traders will most likely find the token they want to trade with.

Here is a small list of the most popular tokens available on KuCoin:

  • Bitcoin
  • Ethereum
  • BNB
  • XRP
  • BUSD
  • ADA
  • Solana
  • Doge
  • Shiba Inu
  • Matic

This is just a small list and there are way more coins available to trade with.

Trading Features on KuCoin

When looking at trading features offered by KuCoin, there is a large selection of them. There are usual spot and futures trading that can also be leveraged for higher profits. The highest leverage KuCoin traders can use is 1:5, which is relatively low considering the fact that KuCoin is not regulated and does not need to follow any government protocols. KuCoin also allows users to directly swap one cryptocurrency for another, without the need of going to the market.

KuCoin has a great earning function on its website. Here traders can put their tokens into staking pools or savings accounts in order to earn APYs on them. In total there are 50+ tokens that can be either staked or put into a savings account on KuCoin. There is a great lending space on KuCoin as well, where traders can lend out their tokens for daily interest. Here traders can lend out their tokens for either 7, 14, or 28 days and select their daily interest rate. Then people who are looking to get loans can see these listings and select which offer is best for them.

Lastly, KuCoin has its own trading bot that can be used to automate everyday trading activities. This is a very simple trading bot that does not require any extensive knowledge about AI trading. Traders can simply go to market, set up the bot, and tell it how it should trade, then just seat back and relax while the bot does the work.

When using this bot, be sure to check on it frequently as trading bots are not perfect and if left unattended for a long period of time, one drastic market shift can cause the bot to make poor decisions and make us lose large amounts of money.

Fees and Commissions on KuCoin

When it comes to fees and commissions, KuCoin implements a standard maker/taker fee structure. This is the fee structure where exchanges look at whether you are making prices by placing limit orders (a maker) or trading on spot prices (a taker). Fees will depend on which of these you are, with makers usually having lower fees as they create liquidity. Here we will give you a table of KuCoins maker/taker fees.

Level30-Day Trading Vol (BTC)Maker FeesTaker Fees
LV0<500.1%0.1%
LV1≥ 500.09%0.1%
LV2≥ 2000.07%0.09%
LV3≥ 5000.05%0.08%
LV4≥ 1,0000.03%0.07%
LV5≥ 2,0000%0.07%

This is not a full table, and fees go further down as your trading volume increases. It also needs to be noted that traders who are paying with KCS (Native token of KuCoin) receive additional discounts on these fees.

KuCoin Website

Website.png

Looking at KuCoin’s website we can say that this is a well-balanced mix of simplicity and usability. The website is built with simplicity in mind, everything has its own dedicated place, nothing jumps out if it is not necessary, and all in all everything is well-placed. But this simplicity does not mean that it lacks functionality. Everything is placed neatly inside the top menu bar, and by hovering over each section, you will be shown additional sections of the website. For example, when hovering over the Trade menu, we will be given spot trading, margin trading, convert page, and other similar options.

When it comes to the visual side of things, the site has a bright design with green being the primary color after white. This color scheme might not be the most visually pleasing for everyone, but we doubt anyone will be highly dissatisfied with the way things look.

KuCoin Education

KuCoin's education section can leave some mixed feelings. It can be a great place to visit but also has its negativities. It is not really classified as an “educational section” per se but is called KuCoin Blog. Despite this naming, there are still a good number of educational articles. There are weekly market updates, different tutorials, trading guides, and more.

But the downside to this KuCoin Blog is that it has a somewhat bad design. Yes, each topic has its own category, but these categories are clustered, and it might be hard to find the topic you are looking for.

All in all, this is a great place to visit from time to time, but we advise that beginner traders visit other educational pages to learn about cryptocurrencies, as it will be challenging for them to receive sufficient information from this blog.

KuCoin Customer Support

The customer support on KuCoin is just like its educational materials, it's good but can be done better. When visiting their support center we will be given a few different sections with each one dedicated to different topics. Most of these sections are dedicated to technical support such as authenticator restarts, account recovery, and other similar stuff. They also have a section dedicated to FAQs, but if we are not looking for technical support and have questions regarding other subjects it might be hard to find the answer to these questions in FAQs, or they can even be entirely missing.

KuCoin also has a chat option, but here you will not be communicating with a human as an AI leads the conversation. If we need more thorough answers and assistance, we can submit a support ticket where we have to indicate our problem and explain it thoroughly.

KuCoin Mobile App

On the mobile app side, KuCoin has a really well-built and designed app that can give us almost every feature that the website version does. One downside is that it does not have separate beginner and professional versions of the app. This app is feature rich as traders can access every market, trading bot, staking platform, P2P trading, and many other features. All in all, this is a nice app that will be a great companion in everyday trading activities.

Getting Started on KuCoin

Now let’s look at how we can start trading on KuCoin and what steps we need to take for this.

Step 1: Registration

Our first step is to create our account. This is a simple process as all you have to provide is either your email address or phone number and the password you wish to use. Then you will be sent a verification code and after entering this code your account will be ready.

Step 2: Verification (Optional)

The next step is optional verification. KuCoin does not require its users to verify their identity and still offers its services. But these services are limited in volume and deposit options, and if we wish to remove these limitations we need to verify our identity. For this, we simply need to provide our personal information and upload an accepted government-issued ID.

Step 3: Deposit and start trading

When depositing funds, we can either purchase crypto using fiat currencies or deposit straight cryptocurrencies if we have it in personal wallets or on other crypto exchanges. Once these deposits go through, we will be ready to start our trading journey.
